Foxboro, MA and the Catskills of NY

We just returned from a week with family and friends, this time heading north and east. Our weekend in Massachusetts was a bit damp and chilly, but we loved spending time with grands Thomas and Ethan at Normandy Farms in Foxboro.

Ah, nothing like s’mores for dinner

On Monday we headed to the Catskills to see friends who had recently moved to Saugerties. Good food (Sarah’s a wonderful chef and we ate in the restaurant where she works), good music (James is an outstanding singer-songwriter and treated us to a lovely evening by the campfire) and good just being together! They suggested we hike Overlook Mountain (near Woodstock), which happens to have a  Tibetan Buddhist retreat center across the street from the parking lot.

Our friends from Honeoye NY were camping with us, and we hiked together to the top of Overlook .  Almost at the top are the ruins of an unfinished hotel, home to Timber Rattlesnakes and black bears (which others saw, but not us.)

As advertised, the views from the top were spectacular!

I Love New York!

We hitched up Ollie and headed north for a wonderful extended Memorial Day weekend with family and friends in the Finger Lakes where we lived for 25 years.  It was our first experience of “driveway camping” with Ollie – first at Russ’ cousin’s in Skaneateles, then with good friends in Honeoye.  If you’ve never been to the Finger Lakes, put it on your list.  I’ll let the photos tell you why.

A great place to driveway camp!

On Sunday we said goodbye to Skaneateles and headed west to Honeoye where we stayed with good friends at their lovely home overlooking the Bristol Hills.  It was a  wonderful weekend, reconnecting with people and places we love, complete with a parade and a moving Memorial Day ceremony.
