The Texas Bluebonnets in bloom have long been on my “Must See” list, and yesterday we hitched up Ollie and are heading to the Lone Star state. We’ve made it as far as Lexington, KY where we’re enjoying a relaxing stay at the lovely Fort Boonesborough State Park, just south of the city. We arrived early in the day, hoping for a hike and/or bike ride, but the torrential rains that had followed us all day lingered into the afternoon with off and on deluges. Here are a few photos taken between the downpours.
This park is home to the remnants of the fort built by Daniel Boone and company in 1775 on the banks of the Kentucky River. A plaque marks the place where a “Divine Elm” stood that could shade 100 people beneath its boughs.
A short drive down the road led to a lovely old relic, complete with family graveyard.
