Travels with Mollie

My 50th High School reunion beckoned me to Greensboro NC last week, but Russ opted to go hiking in the Adirondacks instead.  My friend Molly and I have mutual friends who live in NC, so we decided to make it a girl trip – my maiden voyage in Ollie without Russ!

The highlight of the reunion weekend was the Girl Scout luncheon, with 22 scouts from 2 troops attending.  It was wonderful being together again, learning the different paths we all took over the past 50 years.

From Greensboro we headed west to visit our friend Sue in Asheville, touring the city, enjoying the views, and eating at some wonderful restaurants.

Our way home took us 400 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with lots of twists and turns, beautiful views around every bend, and interesting stops along the way.

The Blue Ridge Music Center offers an outstanding museum that traces the development of mountain music and free, live entertainment with local musicians every afternoon.
Mabry Mill, in operation from 1910 to 1935, and currently home to some of the best Blackberry Cobbler you’ll ever eat!

Our journey continued into Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive.  Today, August 25, 2016, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service, truly America’s best idea!
